Stop Studying Your Bible… Hear Me Out
Danika (pictured left) hangs out with friends at Better Life Church with Madie, Lillian, and Emily. Cru is not the church so I am proud that this friend group is plugged in somewhere!
Please reach out to me if your church would like some guidance on reaching college students.
I didn’t expect those words to come out of my mouth but they did. Were my words clumsy? Probably. But I really did mean it.
For the last week I have been inviting involved, high quality students onto our leadership team. It has been a wildly encouraging week! As I met with Danika (a sophomore, pre-vet major, pictured above) I learned of her struggle spending consistent time in God’s word.
Danika is so solid! I have seen her excel in so many areas of leadership. I wish I had 100 Danika’s in our movement! I could tell she wanted more from her devotional times and I wanted more for her.
“How do you read your Bible” I asked her.
“Right now I am reading through Romans. I read a passage, I move on to a word study, and then I pull out a commentary to see what I’m missing.”
“No wonder you’re only reading the Bible once per week!” I explained, “You are trying to study organic chemistry and then squeeze in time to study the Bible…”
(and then my clumsy words)
“Stop studying your Bible”
If Not Study, Then What?
For the record, I’m not against studying the Bible… it’s really important! But let’s not overcomplicate time alone with Jesus.
I want the same thing for Danika as I want for you. I want you to to slow down and prayerfully connect with God. Danika had put so much pressure on her time with God that she could only get in His Word once per week.
How have you been connecting with God this week?
No doubt He wants your heart and your mind. Take the pressure off of your time with Him and dive in!
Here’s an article I wrote to help start your time with God in prayer and a rundown to get you started!

Two Months Away From the New Baby!
Please continue to be in prayer for our growing family. I feel like there is so much on our agenda that I have hardly thought about this drastic change in our family dynamic.
Please pray that Kelly and I walk in the power of God’s Spirit and trust Him with our anxieties.
As you know, we are trusting God for 50 new financial partners before Addie gets here. By God’s grace, we have seen Him provide 20 new partners! Please pray for grace as I continue to introduce new ministry partners to what God is doing on campus.
Kelly and Alice walk into to our End of the Year Formal. Leo made a great doorman!
