The Loudest Kid in Cru

“I wouldn’t have won this award without you telling me about Jesus.”

Aiden is a fun kid. He’s quick to try new things, he smiles a lot, and frankly, everyone likes him. He’s usually the guy bouncing around our Cru meetings finding new people to talk to—which is why he (and 50 other students) roared laughing when he won the award for as "Loudest Person in Cru.”

A week later, our seniors took the stage for their final meeting. It was a night for underclassmen to share public appreciations of the graduates. I knew Colin and Aiden were friends, but I had no clue how much Colin had actually shaped Aiden’s life over the last two years.

Aiden didn't just wave at me to share—he ran to the front of the room.

He looked at Colin and told the 60 students present: “I would have never won this ‘Loudest in Cru’ award if you hadn’t shared Jesus with me… if you hadn’t invited me to ask Him into my heart.”

The "award" was just a single sheet of paper, but Aiden had gone out and had it framed with photos of him and Colin. He had put real work into this.

I found out later that when Aiden was a freshman, he was constantly bumming rides from Colin. Colin loves Jesus and is quick to talk about Him. When Aiden explained he didn't have Bible on campus, Colin gave him his. One night after our Cru meeting, they stayed up until 2:00 AM talking about the Gospel.

That was the night Aiden started his new life with Christ.

I get so excited about stories like this because it wasn’t a "program" or a "strategy." It was one believer, equipped and bold enough to share his life with someone else.

This week, we’re graduating 12 seniors who all have impactful stories just like this one. They are leaving Morehead State on a mission. They will be hard to replace, but we are trusting God that a new crop of leaders will step up this fall to reach the next "Aiden" in the incoming freshman class.

The mission continues.
